Well I hope you die-hard fight fans tuned into one or more of events that occurred over this weekend...#Bellator174 to me lived up to the hype with Julia Budd defeating Marlos Cohen to become the first ever Bellator MMA Women's Featherweight Champion last Friday night. Julia was coming into this fight on 7 fight win streak. Last time she lost a fight was against Ronda Rousey dating back to Strikeforce. Ever since than, Budd has evolved into this champion. Fight fans need to take note that these new generation of fighters and champions are here to stay.
I always quiche when I see Legendary fighters lose to a rising star but every fairytale has to end sometime soon. It is hard for some fighters to let go which is understandable in any sport but hopefully when the fighter decides to call it quits, they will give back to help new generation of fighters or just find something that keeps them involved if that is what they choose to do after they hang them up. I salute Marloes Cohen for all she has done for #WMMA. She was former Strikeforce champion and fought some top notch women her entire career. She is a true pioneer of this sport. I wish her nothing but the best in life.
#PBConCBS was another good event to watch last night. We did not get a chance to see Heather "The Heat" Hardy like expected. She fought before the doors even opened up from a known source. Hardy still won making her 19-0. Hopefully one day, we will see her on main card in boxing ring or inside the Invicta FC cage very soon to witness her greatness. Thurman vs Garcia fight was amazing battle between both fighters but Thurman came out on top this time. Congratulations to a hard fought war with this win. He becomes Unified Welterweight Champion.
#UFC209 was not bad either. Woodley vs Thompson 2 was very interesting. Everyone anticipated an all out war from all fighters hype and media hype but we got just a simple MMA matchup with the fighters showing respect to each other's abilities. Nothing new to me but this type of thing happens in fight game. Not every fight will be #FOTN. The official decision went to Woodley. Dana White,UFC President, felt Thompson had won three rounds to secure the win but the judges always see it differently. I feel Damian Maia should get the next title shot after his fight coming up soon against Jorge Masvidal at #UFC211 in Dallas. Stay tuned for this all to play out soon.
We still have #EBI11 going down tonight. It is focused on Welterweight division this time on #UFCFightPass. Next weekend we move on to #UFCFortaleza: 🇧🇷 Vitor Belfort vs 🇲🇽 Kelvin Gastelum! This looks to be a solid matchup.
