#UFC delivered and hardcore fight fans in #kansascity embraced it. From the very first #UFCFightPass preliminaries to mainevent, the fans here showed a lot of love for every fighter in some way to welcome them. Every fighter seemed to raise the bar when they stepped into Octagon with all the fan support around the #SprintCenter.
Ashlee Evans-Smith vs Ketlyn Vieira was very good one to kick off the early preliminaries. Vieira landed good shots and kept the pace going against Evans-Smith. Evans-Smith never seemed to get into a groove during whole fight. Vieira showed good stand up game as well as takedown defense. Vieira won by decision. Hometown hero Zak Cummings took on veteran Nathan Coy in second preliminary fight. Solid hits to Coy. Cummings showed more aggressive approach and good takedown defense. Cummings wins by submission (guillotine). Big ovation from Kansas City fans in support of Zak. He appreciated it. Tim Elliott vs Louis Smolka opened up #UFConFox24 card. This was very exciting matchup than fans really got behind the man who won #TUF25 last season. You could have not asked for a more technical fight between these two fighters. Every round was exciting. Lots of scrambling but Elliott had topped out the unanimous decision. Later on had a quick meeting with UFC President Dana White in the back. Dana granted Elliott a 50K performance bonus for all his hard work last night. Elliott was appreciative for all the love and support from his family, friends, and the fans. In the co-mainevent, Michelle "Karate Hottie" Waterson vs Rose Namajunas kept the intensity moving throughout the bout. Both ladies landed clean shots. This fight was the most I ever seen Namajunas prepared for any fight. Waterson landed good oblique kicks that is known for anyone that trains out of Jackson Wink MMA. Namajunas hit Waterson with vicious headkick but Waterson survived it. Namajunas took Waterson's back and submitted her with a rear naked choke to finish it. In the mainevent, all the hype of Demetrious Johnson vs Wilson Reis was in full effect. UFC Flyweight Champion said in previous interviews leading up to this fight that this was the hardest he ever trained knowing all about Reis fight game. Mighty Mouse was also aware that with this win, he would tie The Greatest of All-Time, Anderson Silva on most active defending champion in UFC history. One more win will solidify him as greatest to ever defend his belt as best pound for pound fighter in MMA history. DJ's speed has been just ruthless. He knows when just to make the right moves to wear down his opponents every fight. DJ had a chance to finish Reis in 2nd Round but it stretched out into 3rd Round with armbar submission win. The crowd erupted when it was all over. DJ in his post-fight interview thanked all fans for coming out and showing their support that night. He tied Anderson Silva and was asked by Brian Stann,UFC correspondent, what is next for the champion,DJ replied,"Breaking the record!" Great night of fights in KAN.SAS.CITY. UFC is welcomed back anytime for another UFC Fight Night and maybe a possible pay-per-view down the line in near future. Thanks to all that tuned in to watch this historic night.
