What another great night of fights that all kept us on edge our seats leading all the way up to the mainevent. This was truly the best card of 2017 of all of the toughest fighters to entertainment the fans last night. The #WMMA fight between Kailan Curran vs Alexandra Albu clearly set the tone for the night on #UFCFightPass engaging us with every minute of every round. The ladies gave it their all battling it out every round with non-stop action which resulted in Albu winning the fight by decision. Sure hope that fight encourages more fight fans to get involved and behind these ladies in WMMA. In addition, the fight for the vacant UFC Women's Featherweight belt was on the line between Cris Cyborg vs Tonya Evinger. Cyborg is always on the next level of competition every fight. Cyborg and UFC had some issues in the past that prevented Cyborg from becoming a champion but all that was mainly cleared up by the time this fight was set to take place by UFC supporting her as the best pound for pound fighter on the planet. Former UFC Featherweight Champion, Germaine De Randaime, even backed out of this fight to avoid the beating that was coming to her. Tonya Evinger, former Invicta FC Bantamweight Champion, was the only fighter willing enough to step up to take this fight. Evinger deserved to be in this fight more than anyone. Evinger is a decorated champion and pioneer in WMMA. Evinger was long overdue for this opportunity in UFC and to be a champion on her UFC debut. Evinger took powerful strikes that would have taken out any other fighter but she definitely showed her toughness by managing everything best she could every round. Evinger tried her best to push the pace and to take Cyborg off her game but Cyborg kept bringing her heavy artillery that finally brought Evinger down in Round 3 via TKO strikes. It will be interesting to see where this Featherweight division will go knowing Cyborg has taken the throne. The rest of the fights were very good between Lawler and Cerrone too. Very close on scorecards but Lawler takes the win. Lawler even dedicated his win last night to UFC Hall of Famer Matt Hughes. Hughes, who is still hospitalized, is still recovering from a truck accident involved with a train. We at #8bitMMA are still pulling for Hughes to recover in due time and wish him the best as he keeps fighting everyday for a full recovery.
