Our #8bitMMA Fighter of The Week is Anthony “Showtime” Pettis. Pettis was born in Milwaukee Wisconsin but his family roots go all the way back to Puerto Rico and Mexico. Pettis fights out of ROFUS Sports. Pettis is a 3rd Dan black belt in Taekwondo and a brown belt in #BJJ. In addition, Anthony’s youngest brother Sergio Pettis, actively fights in UFC and making a push towards reaching the title soon too. Pettis has been on a wild roll a coaster of a career. Pettis has been actively fighting since 2007. Pettis is one of the only few fighters from #WEC promotions that has been successful in UFC. Pettis special flying kick off the cage KO win against Benson Henderson caught everyone’s attention that night. Pettis became the last WEC Lightweight Champion before WEC merged with UFC. Pettis went on to defeat Henderson again in a UFC title fight almost 3 years ago when he captured UFC Gold. Pettis eventually lost his belt to Rafael Dos Anjos after he defended his belt against Gilbert Melendez. In 2016, Pettis was 1-3 . Pettis was undecided about staying with long time and friend Rofus or possibly switching to Jackson Wink MMA. He knows Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone and trained with his crew during that time. Pettis bounced back with a win over Jim Miller this past July with Rofus in his corner. Anthony Pettis has a new fight coming up against UFC veteran Dustin “The Diamond” Poirier. Should be a fast paced fight with someone being TKOed or winner by decision. Both fighters made weight this morning for the official non-ceremonial weigh-ins. So their fight is officially on for this Saturday night in the mainevent.
